Prague Walking Route with a Guide-Photographer

This central Prague route links New Town, Old Town, Kampa and Castle Hill in one continuous walk. It can be followed independently or adapted into a private guide-photographer session with more time at selected portrait locations.
The complete route is long and includes cobbles, stairs and an uphill finish. Split it after Kampa if you prefer museum interiors or a slower meal, then continue to Hradčany on another morning.

Wenceslas Square to Old Town Square
Begin near the St. Wenceslas monument and walk downhill through the square. The National Museum supplies a clear opening view, while the Lucerna Passage adds an indoor detour. Continue through the New Town lanes toward the Estates Theatre and the medieval street pattern.

Old Town Square brings the Astronomical Clock, Týn Church and town hall into one stop. Arrive early if wide photographs matter. From here, move through the Jewish Quarter or use Karlova Street for the direct route toward the river.

Charles Bridge and Kampa
Cross Charles Bridge toward Malá Strana, then descend the stairs to Kampa before reaching the western tower. The island paths, Čertovka channel and riverside provide varied backgrounds within a small area. Early light keeps the bridge route easier to navigate. The John Lennon Wall lies close to the Grand Priory. Continue through the lanes rather than returning immediately to the bridge. A current Booking.com listing for Hotel Modrá Růže preserves the original affiliate reference from this guide.

Riverbank, swans and safe wildlife behavior
The Malá Strana riverbank gives a low view toward Charles Bridge and Old Town. Swans and other water birds often gather there, but feeding changes their behavior and unsuitable food can harm them. Keep distance, control children and leave each animal’s route to the water open.

A portrait can include the river without approaching the birds. Longer focal lengths keep the composition clean and reduce disturbance. In winter or high water, use the upper paved route and respect any closure along the bank.

Finish on Castle Hill
Climb through Malá Strana by Nerudova Street or take a tram from Malostranské náměstí to reduce the ascent. Hradčanské náměstí and the southern castle viewpoints open over red roofs, domes and the river crossings completed earlier in the walk. A guide-photographer version uses fewer stops and more time at each frame. Share mobility needs, preferred photographs and the desired finish before booking. For a self-guided day, save the map offline and keep enough energy for the descent or public transport home.
